Polybutylene succinate (PBS) is a linear polyester biodegradable plastic formed by the condensation polymerization of succinic acid and butanediol. It can be regarded as a “one-step universal bioplastic” - it can be synthesized through a direct esterification polymerization process, avoiding some complex modification steps of other bioplastics. Therefore, its production cost is relatively controllable, while its mechanical properties can rival those of polypropylene (PP), and its heat distortion temperature can reach nearly 100°C. PBS not only has excellent biocompatibility and biodegradability, but also has the best processing performance among degradable plastics. It can be processed by various molding methods on existing general equipment and can be extensively mixed with inexpensive fillers such as starch and calcium carbonate to reduce costs. It is widely used in disposable tableware, packaging containers, agricultural films, and medical polymer materials, etc.
