High impact resistance polystyrene
High impact resistance polystyrene

High Impact Polystyrene (HIPS) is a thermoplastic material formed by graft copolymerization or physical blending of polystyrene and polybutadiene rubber. It can be regarded as a “rubber-reinforced rigid matrix” - by uniformly dispersing butadiene rubber particles in the polystyrene continuous phase, the rubber particles can absorb impact energy and prevent crack propagation, thus increasing the impact strength of pure polystyrene by several times while retaining good processing fluidity, dimensional stability, and ease of coating and printing properties (but with a decrease in transparency and heat resistance). HIPS is widely used in household appliance shells (refrigerator inner walls, air conditioner panels), television backs, disposable tableware, toy shells, packaging containers, and advertising boards, etc., in situations where both low cost and moderate impact resistance are required.
